Dipper, White-throated (Cinclus cinclus)
Where to see them
Found throughout Europe, although there are a number of subspecies. (See Black-bellied Dipper) Always associated with flowing water, the less-polluted the better. They are able to swim underwater as well as on the surface.
Photos 1 and 3 are of the same obliging bird and were taken in Berchtesgarden, Bavaria. The second photo is of a juvenile, taken in Burgundy, France. The final 3 are of an adult and young taken near Konigsee in Bavaria, showing their usual environment.
When to see them
Generally resident, although northern birds may move south in winters.
